INSTALLATION GUIDE
PVC INTERLOCKING FLOOR TILES
INTRODUCTION
Dura Tile PVC interlocking floor tiles feature durable interlocking edges that can be gently tapped into place using a ball-peen hammer to create a secure connection.
The tiles are designed for installation without adhesive in most applications. However, adhesive can be used where required, particularly in high-traffic or heavy-duty environments.
IMPORTANT: ALLOW FOR CUTTING WASTE
When installing tiles wall-to-wall, you will rarely be able to cover the entire floor using only full tiles. Some tiles will need to be cut to fit around the perimeter and other obstacles.
When calculating the quantity of tiles required, allow for cutting waste. We recommend ordering approximately 3% extra material to avoid running short during installation.
BASIC TOOLS AND MATERIALS REQUIRED
Ensure you have the following tools and materials available before starting your installation:
- Broom and dustpan
- Ball-peen hammer
- Wooden float
- Stanley knife (utility knife)
- Straight edge
- Measuring tape and pencil
- Mop and bucket
- General-purpose cleaner, such as Clean Green or Handy Andy
- Dura Tile PVC interlocking floor tiles and edging ramps, where required
- Recommended adhesive, where applicable
BEFORE YOU BEGIN
Before starting your installation, determine which product you are installing and whether adhesive is required.
Dura Tile
Dura Tile is designed to be loose-laid for most installations. Adhesive may be recommended for high-traffic or heavy-duty environments where the flooring will be subjected to significant movement or loads from heavy vehicles.
Where adhesive is required, we recommend Pekay A663 two-component, polyurethane-based adhesive. This adhesive is suitable for bonding PVC flooring to masonry, concrete and brick surfaces.
Dura Drain
Dura Drain does not require adhesive. The tiles are designed to be installed as a loose-laid interlocking system over suitable existing surfaces.

INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS
STEP 1: PREPARE THE FLOOR
Ensure that the floor surface is:
- Level
- Clean
- Dry
- Free of dust, dirt and debris
Proper floor preparation is essential for a neat, stable and secure installation.
STEP 2: PREPARE YOUR TOOLS AND MATERIALS
Before beginning, read through all the installation instructions and ensure that the necessary preparation has been completed.
Have all your tools, materials, tiles and edging ramps readily available. Familiarise yourself with the installation process and the sequence of steps to follow.
STEP 3: START LAYING THE TILES
Start at the entrance or doorway of the installation area.
- Position the edging ramp, where required, and lay the first row of tiles.
- Gently tap the tiles together using a small ball-peen hammer to secure the interlocking connections.
- Continue laying the full tiles, following your planned layout.
When connecting the edging ramps to the tiles, we recommend positioning them to achieve a 50/50 overlap from one tile to the next, as illustrated in the accompanying installation image.
If adhesive is required:
Work in manageable sections. First, lay out and check a section of interlocked tiles. Carefully lift the tiles, apply the adhesive to the prepared floor, and replace the tiles before the adhesive begins to set or become tacky.
STEP 4: APPLY ADHESIVE, WHERE REQUIRED
If your installation requires adhesive, prepare only enough Pekay A663 for the section you are working on. Follow the manufacturer’s mixing instructions carefully.
- Apply the adhesive evenly to the exposed floor area using a wooden float.
- Carefully position the interlocked tiles over the adhesive.
- Press the tiles firmly into place to ensure good contact with the floor.
- Continue working in manageable sections until all full tiles have been installed.
Note: Follow the adhesive manufacturer’s instructions regarding application, working time and curing.
STEP 5: MEASURE AND CUT THE TILES
Once all the full tiles have been installed, measure the remaining gaps around the perimeter of the room and any other areas requiring cut tiles.
- Measure each gap carefully.
- Mark the required measurements on the tiles.
- Using a sharp Stanley knife and a straight edge, carefully cut the tiles to size.
Take care when cutting to ensure a neat, accurate fit.
If adhesive is required: Apply the adhesive to each prepared floor section before fitting the cut tiles.
STEP 6: FIT THE CUT TILES
Fit the cut tiles into the remaining gaps to complete the installation.
Ensure that:
- All tiles are properly interlocked.
- Cut tiles fit neatly into the available spaces.
- All tiles are securely positioned.
- Edging ramps and perimeter sections are correctly fitted, where applicable.
Where adhesive has been used, allow it to cure fully in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions before exposing the floor to heavy traffic or cleaning it with water.
STEP 7: CLEAN THE COMPLETED FLOOR
Once the installation is complete and, where applicable, the adhesive has fully cured, clean the tiles using warm water mixed with a general-purpose cleaner, such as Clean Green or Handy Andy.
Keep the rinse water clean throughout the cleaning process to prevent dirt and cleaning residue from remaining on the tile surface after drying.
Your Dura Tile PVC interlocking floor installation is now complete.
